Lewis Hamilton says he could have qualified third for the Canadian Grand Prix but for a mistake on his final Q3 lap, which left the Ferrari driver fifth on the grid. Hamilton said: "It felt great. We made some good changes in qualifying. Oh man, I was hopeful for a better result, but didn't get my last lap. The car was feeling like we were improving, and honestly, if I got the last lap, I probably could have been third."

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says neither George Russell nor Kimi Antonelli should expect the other to leave space when they race, after their on-track flashpoint in the Canadian Grand Prix sprint. Toto Wolff said: "We agreed that we trust them, they know how to push. But in any case, no one is expecting the other one to leave space, because it's too important."

Toto Wolff says George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have agreed a framework for how they will race each other, after the pair clashed during the Canadian Sprint. Wolff said: "It's good to know the rules. Would Max have left space there? No. Would Max have opened the door or left enough space in Turn 1? He wouldn't. So, how do we want to do this between teammates? And I think it's important for them to decide how they want to race each other, and then with the outcome. No, that's the rules now, and it's a framework that they have established amongst themselves, and we are happy."

Max Verstappen warned the 2027 Formula 1 season would be “mentally not doable” for him if proposed power unit changes are not approved, with an agreement in principle to alter power delivery towards a 60-40 split in favour of internal combustion over electrical elements. Verstappen said: "Well, if it stays like this, it's going to be a long year next year, which I don't want. I can tell you, if it stays like this, it's just mentally not doable."

Max Verstappen said Red Bull pursued a set-up direction he did not support in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, where he secured sixth on the grid. Verstappen said: "We did something different with my car, that's what the team wanted. Clearly, that doesn't work the way it should. But sometimes you also have to let the team do their thing and make clear that it doesn't work. I said, 'Go ahead, if you think this is going to work, then do it.' And clearly, it doesn't work."

Isack Hadjar said he had “thrown it all away” in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix and felt he should have been in the top three after finishing seventh. Hadjar said: "I made a mistake on the first run of Q3, and I couldn't really have a good reference heading into that final lap and I was kind of overdriving it. It's really a shame because it's the first time this year we've had such a good car, and I had to kind of throw it all away because I didn't do a good job. That's definitely positive, but then on the other hand I should have been in that top three and I didn't."

Pierre Gasly hit a groundhog during Saturday qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix, the second such incident of the weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after Alexander Albon struck one in Friday practice. Gasly was able to continue, but Alpine racing director Steve Nielsen said the contact caused floor damage that hurt his session, explaining: "Unfortunately, he suffered some floor damage in Q1 as a result of hitting a trackside groundhog, which impacted his car's handling in Q2."

Sergio Perez avoided a heavier penalty at the Canadian Grand Prix after the stewards issued only a reprimand for impeding Fernando Alonso in Q1. The Cadillac driver, who qualified P20, was judged to have blocked Alonso heading into the final chicane, but the stewards accepted there were mitigating circumstances, stating that Perez “saw the car behind weaving and assumed it was on an out lap when, in fact, that car was overtaking another car” and that, while “this may have been a reasonable assumption”, he still failed to comply with the competition notes, so “the penalty of a Reprimand is imposed on the driver”. It is Perez’s first reprimand of the 2026 season.

Max Verstappen says Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix will be “chaos” as Formula 1 prepares for what is set to be its first wet race of 2026 in Montreal. Max Verstappen said: "I think [the race] will be chaos regardless of the weather."

Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari have now got his engineering set-up “where I need it” and the car in a place where he “really feel[s] like myself” in Montreal ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. Hamilton said: "Honestly, for me, my engineering team is now just where I need it and we've finally got the car this weekend in a place where I really feel like myself, and I really hope that continues. I don't need to change up my team, we just need to keep on working and do what works for me."

Lewis Hamilton has avoided a penalty after a post-qualifying stewards’ investigation into an incident with Pierre Gasly during Q1 at the Canadian Grand Prix. The stewards took no further action, stating that Hamilton "was under the impression that Car 10 was not on a push lap, and his team confirmed that it had the same opinion", while Gasly and Alpine "did not consider this to be a case of 'unnecessary impeding'".

Aston Martin was fined a total of €12,500 for two pit lane errors in qualifying. The team received €7,500 after Lance Stroll’s car was sent out with wheel covers still fitted, with the stewards ruling that “on its way down the pit lane at the start of the session, car 18 lost an outer wheel trim” and that “on its first lap, the inner wheel cover also dislodged”, adding that the second part coming off on track made the penalty more severe. A further €5,000 fine was issued after Fernando Alonso was released unsafely at the start of Q1, with the stewards stating it was “apparent that car 43 had to swerve and locked the front wheels to avoid a collision with car 14” and that this “was determined by the Stewards to be an unsafe release.”

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri says Mercedes “still got a bit of a gap on everyone” with George Russell taking pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri said: "I think there was a bit left in there. Turn 3 and 4, I was struggling with pretty much the whole session. But apart from that, it was all pretty good. Looking at George's lap, it's not a perfect lap either. So, I think the Mercedes has still got a bit of a gap on everyone."
Lewis Hamilton says his mother, Carmen Larbalestier, came to the Canadian Grand Prix because she wanted to spend time with him, after previously only attending his home race at Silverstone. Hamilton said: "Then she asked me if she could come to Montreal, and I was like, 'Absolutely.' But I think also because it is a really great city to come to. It's got really good restaurants here. There's such a buzz in town. And I was like, 'Do you want to bring a friend?' And she's like, 'No, I just want to come spend time with you.' So we have just a great time. She's really my best friend, so I'm really grateful that she's taken the time to come and be here."

Liam Lawson says he has to be careful racing Sergio Perez after an incident between them at Turn 13 in the sprint at the Canadian Grand Prix. Lawson said: "Obviously, trying to come through the field from the back, and I just have to be careful when racing him. He's quite aggressive, so in the end, he pushed me off, and I just decided not to race him anymore. It's not really worth it for no points."

Kimi Antonelli says things are now “all clear” with Mercedes team-mate George Russell after their Sprint clash in Canada, adding that they remain “free to race” as they prepare to line up on the front row again for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Antonelli said: "Yeah of course, we had a chat with George and Toto [Wolff] and now it's all clear. We clarified about the race. We recognised our own mistakes, so now obviously we're free to race but of course we need to race with respect."
