Sergio Perez is under investigation by the Monaco Grand Prix stewards over an alleged failure to follow the race director’s instructions during a practice start, with the hearing not scheduled until after the race. Replays showed the Cadillac driver crossing the white line at the pit exit after choosing not to wait behind a queue of cars.

The Monaco Grand Prix has been red-flagged with 10 laps to go after two separate crashes at the final corner prompted the FIA to suspend the race to inspect a suspected “track break-up at Turn 19”. Lance Stroll crashed from 16th to trigger an initial safety car, before Charles Leclerc hit the wall at the same spot while running third on the restart. Kimi Antonelli was leading for Mercedes at the stoppage from Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar, with George Russell fourth.

Max Verstappen said his early retirement from the Monaco Grand Prix was “even more painful” because Red Bull had been in position for a strong result before his car failed to get off the line at the start and he retired at the end of the first lap. Verstappen said: "After such a nice weekend for us, you'd at least hope to be on the podium. We of course then retired basically straight away. It's painful for everyone. There's also no need to be super upset because I think everyone is already really disappointed about it... I really felt good this whole weekend, and now to basically come away with zero points is probably even more painful."

Lando Norris retired from the Monaco Grand Prix after 46 laps with another battery-related problem, his second such issue of the weekend. The McLaren driver has now suffered back-to-back non-finishes due to power unit trouble after failing to finish the Canadian Grand Prix, and he also did not start the Chinese Grand Prix because of an electrical issue.

Max Verstappen said an erratic revs problem before the start left his Red Bull bogging down when he released the clutch, forcing him to retire from the Monaco Grand Prix after initially failing to get off the grid. Max Verstappen said: "Yeah, formation lap [it] already felt a bit off, but then on the pre-start it was completely… normally you find your RPM target, but it was not going at all, it was just shooting up and down a lot, a bit weird. And then as soon as I dropped the clutch that was it, the engine bogged down completely and after that, the noise that I heard from the engine once I got some power back out of turn one was very bad so I immediately just lifted off and brought it home."

Sergio Perez has been given a drive-through penalty during the Monaco Grand Prix after the stewards ruled his Cadillac was out of position at the start, amounting to a false start. Perez, who ran up to 14th in the opening corners, dropped towards the back after serving the penalty and rejoined in 18th, just ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas. Perez is also set to be investigated after the race for a practice start infringement. George Russell was noted for a possible positioning issue but escaped punishment, with the stewards taking no further action as his Mercedes was in position despite being angled towards the centre of the track.
Max Verstappen retired from the Monaco Grand Prix on the opening lap after an apparent Red Bull engine failure that began on the formation lap and left him barely moving when the race started from second on the grid. Verstappen was able to edge the car out of the way and limp back to the pits to retire. Verstappen said: “Already the formation lap was not going very well… and then the engine dropped dead,” adding: “I couldn't go full throttle so that was it.”
