George Russell says the Hungaroring is a “totally different beast” for Mercedes after he complained of a lack of straight-line speed in Belgium, with the team believing a software error left him short of energy over the second half of the lap at Spa. Russell said: "I didn't really look at it to be honest, because I just trusted in the team that everything has been resolved. Even if we had the exact same issue as last week, the difference would have probably been 10% of what we saw last week, just because of the nature of the circuit. This weekend is a totally different beast, and these power units are pretty impressive on this track, having 350kw out of all of the corners, and the rear tyres getting blasted around the lap."

Racing Bulls boss Alan Permane said a late change made by Liam Lawson in second practice in Hungary “worked well” and helped the rear end, as the team ended Friday in “decent shape”. Lewis Hamilton warned Ferrari still has work to do at the Hungarian Grand Prix despite the team topping both Friday practice sessions at the Hungaroring and locking out the top two in FP2. Hamilton, fastest in FP2, said: “There are still a few areas we need to improve,” after a “challenging” day with wind and a bumpy track. Franco Colapinto said his crash in FP2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix was “not an ideal start” after the Alpine driver spun into the barriers at the final corner and brought out a red flag.
